Colour Fibre Cloth Exhibition December 2011
I hope people will agree with me when I say what a wonderful show of skill and talent the Guild put on in the Colour Fibre Cloth exhibition at the December meeting.
We had three sections for people to enter: The Results Show, The Journey and Disaster Darling and all three were full. It was so nice to see what others thought were disasters; whether they were items that hadn't worked out, dyeing experiments that, somehow had not gone the way they were intended or stitch and pattern samples that had failed.
There were some lovely items in The Journey section; unfinished bags, samples and sketchbooks, yarn and samples of spinning and The Results Show was a wonder to behold; beautiful jumpers, hats, socks, gloves, some stunning lace collars and braided dog leads, cushions and a tiny teddy. This all helped us celebrate the richness of diversity the guild members’ show.
After lunch we were treated to a catwalk show with a difference. A small photo book of this Colour Fibre Cloth exhibition will be available to see shortly.

Summer Challenge 2011 - All At Sea (maritime inspired headwear)
The entries were exhibited at the Guild's Fleece Sales Day in June and members and visitors were asked to vote for their favourite pieces by putting coins in little boxes by each creation.
Wonderful, inspired and creative pieces were entered into the challenge.
They ranged from the whimsical to the practical, some spoke of the moods and colours of the sea, others captured the fun of a seaside holiday. We had hats with seagulls or that took you for a walk around the beach, sunglasses masquerading as a pair of fish, a hyperbolic reef created in crochet, an evocative jellyfish inspired creation, seascapes that invited you to dip you toe into the water, fascinators in the shape of crabs, shells, and stormy seas, warm woolly hats that captured the movement and the essence of the sea. It was lovely to see so many skills showcased, these included spinning, felting, knitting, weaving and dyeing. Sarah Mitchell’s mischievous little crab fascinator was the people’s favourite ... well done Sarah.
